The Faculty Forum Speaker for Ring in the New Year is Shelley Perlove, Ph.D., Full Professor of Art History at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. She is a distinguished scholar, teacher, and public speaker, who has received two Distinguished Faculty awards, and has written more than 25 articles and seven books and exhibition catalogues on various aspects of 16th and 17th art, especially the art of Bernini and Rembrandt. Her book, Bernini and the Idealization of Death, has been widely acclaimed, and her most recent book, Rembrandt’s Faith: Church and Temple in the Dutch Golden Age, will soon be published by Penn State Press. Shelley has led art and architecture tours to Europe for the past 17 years and last year was the faculty speaker for the U-M Alumni Dutch River Cruise.

Program
Experience the beauty of Northern Michigan in the quiet, peaceful winter. Cross-country ski or snowshoe in the pristine tranquility of snow-covered fields and forests or just get cozy before the roaring fires in our fieldstone fireplaces. It's a delightful journey and an adventure for the entire family.

Accommodations
Guest cabins are nestled adjacent to Walloon Lake. Cabins offer three or four units, each with its own bedroom and private bath with shower. Cabin mates share a spacious gathering room, handy for a game of cards, conversation or a quiet hour of reading. Vaulted ceilings, spruce paneling and magnificent views provide a charming atmosphere.

The Alumnae Council Education Center offers meeting space, comfortable lounges, a ceramics studio, complete kitchen and dining facilities and six fieldstone fireplaces. With captivating views of the surrounding wooded area, wildlife and lake, it's an inviting space that encourages conversation or quiet reflection.

All meals beginning with a welcome reception on the day of arrival and concluding with breakfast on the day of departure are included. Meals are served in our cheerful dining room featuring rustic iron chandeliers and a gracious fireplace.
